A public swimming pool center in Calgary decided three years ago that on the last day of the summer season they would hold a charity event where dogs only could come and use the pool. An ingenious person realized that at the end of the summer the water is all dumped until the next summer season, so why not have a day just for the dogs, raise funds and then donate to a local shelter. So they did and they call it the Doggy Paddle Charity Event.
This is a great idea for other communities to duplicate. In the second year the Doggy Paddle event was able to raise $800. That is a very good amount to start and a fun day for dogs to enjoy a day at the pool!
